Gina Ward Purposeful Lines - Art

From an early age art has been an important outlet for me; a place to go that is purposeful, spirited and meditative. Art class was always a favorite place to escape to throughout school. I took a few classes in college, but ended up working in the advertising department of a newspaper. The publishing world is where I spent most of the last 25 years, creating publications, house ads, sales and marketing materials and later managing operations. It was not until 2009, when I took a pastel class that I began to paint and use color. Color opened up an entire new world and I have been painting consistently since. Today, I find myself drawn to portraiture and the effects of color and light on my subject. My goal is to evoke an emotional connection from the subject to the viewer, usually through the mirror of the soul, the eyes. I currently enjoy life in Sturgeon Bay with my 9 year-old son, Jack. I always carry my camera with me. You never know when the sun will turn the fog pink in a magnificent sunrise or some beautiful, costumed child will appear before you. Living in a tourist community, my artistic journey continues, drawing out what lies within, though purposeful lines.
